West Chester Field Hockey Falls At Villanova, 6-1

VILLANOVA, Pa. - West Chester dropped a 6-1 decision at Villanova Wednesday afternoon in a non-league field hockey match at Villanova Stadium.

The loss moves the Golden Rams to 3-6 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 7-2.

Freshman forward Alex Swayze notched her second goal of the season just before halftime, cutting the home team's lead in half at the break. However, Villanova scored four unanswered goals in the second half to pull away from a determined West Chester squad.

Ally Smith registered a hat trick for the 'Cats while Allison Boris scored once and assisted on another. Jenn Nazarethian picked up two assists.

Joelle Zarefoss registered a career-high 19 saves in the loss, tied for the sixth most in a single game in school history. Maura McCormick posted two saves. Villanova outshot West Chester, 30-6, and held a 14-5 advantage in penalty corners.

Marisa Holzman picked up an assist on Swayze's goal. The freshman tipped in a shot off a penalty corner at 33:47 to make the score 2-1.

West Chester returns to action on Sunday when they travel to Ursinus to renew one of the oldest regional rivalries in college field hockey. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
